Galaxy Yacht First Class Cruise Galapagos Islands

galápagos cruise

With its raw, natural beauty and amazing wildlife, the isolated Galapagos Islands are best visited by boat, and more specifically, a luxury cruise or liveaboard boat offering different levels of accommodation onboard. Taking a Galapagos small ship cruise ensures you will gain access to some of the best visitor sites, most of which are close to bigger cruise ships. Every destination in the Galapagos archipelago has something unique to offer. Across both of Aqua Mare’s itinerary, we visit 16 islands in total. From inhabited islands such as Isabela and Santa Cruz to the remote beaches of Rabida and Mosquera, prepare yourself for an experience that checks off all the boxes.

How rough are the seas? Will I get seasick?

Galápagos cruise prices will vary depending on the class of vessel, the length of itinerary and the capacity of the ship. The cruises are popular with families, and a diving program is available for advanced divers.

The southern loop typically includes Baltra Island, North Seymour, South Plaza, Santa Fe, San Cristobal Island, Floreana Island, Santa Cruz Island and Espanola Island. Below is a more extensive breakdown of the ships you can sail under each company in the Galapagos. What you likely won't find on board are theaters, casinos, large fitness centers, organized exercise classes and spa facilities. Your vessel might have an open-bridge policy, though; check it out to see if you can catch a peek inside. There is also likely to be a water sports platform and equipment storage area with outdoor showers or hoses for rinsing off shoes and feet when you return from landings ashore.

It's also possible you could visit the same island more than once on a sailing. Again, note that specific itineraries will vary by cruise line and are subject to change. In general, cruise lines will break the islands into north, south, east and west loops. The best way to choose between them is to decide which islands you'd most like to visit. With a capacity for up to 100 passengers, Silver Origin, which debuted in 2021, is arguably the most luxurious vessel sailing in the region. Its list of uncommon amenities — butler service, a fitness center, salon and spa — might just make you forget you're not on a larger ship.

Island exploration with Adventures by Disney on Galapagos Legend

Most Galapagos cruises depart from Baltra Island, San Cristobal Island, where two domestic airports are located, or Puerto Ayora (Santa Cruz). Your cruise operator will then arrange to collect you from the airport and take you to your ship. Fernandina Island - the youngest and one of the most pristine islands in the Galapagos, provides unparalleled opportunities to see unique species like the flightless cormorant and vast lava fields untouched by invasive species. Return to the vessel to enjoy a delicious BBQ on deck as the sun sets on the horizon or, a sophisticated a la carte dinner.

Activities

The Galapagos Islands’ marine reserve is one of the largest and most biologically diverse in the world. The islands are also one of the places in the world that are best explored by cruise ships. Varied activities await you at each of the visitor points to be explored in Galapagos. Kayak on tranquil bays of turquoise waters, take a peek at colorful sea wildlife while snorkeling, and trek through moon-like volcanic landscapes.

Conditions on the last few days of the trip weren't too good due to low visibility, but the first several sessions were wonderful. Book your next Galapagos cruise adventure to the incredible Galapagos Islands online today. Arrive early - trying to arrive at least 1 to 2 days before your cruise departure date is recommended in case of flight delays. The last thing you want is to miss a few days of your long-awaited Galapagos cruise and have to join the tour later.

You should also bring US$ cash to tip the guides and crew aboard your Galapagos cruise. What to pack - While on your Galapagos expedition, there are a few things you want to take with you to get the most enjoyment out of your Galapagos cruise. A good, comfortable pair of hiking or walking shoes is essential for the trails you will explore.

In an intimate group – with a maximum of 16 guests on our cruise ship – you’ll enjoy a highly personalized experience which is curated to your desires. Over on land, Aqua Mare guests will embark on guided hiking adventures to some of the islands’ hotspots for spotting wildlife. There’ll be opportunities to spot land and marine iguanas — striking creatures which look like they were descendants of the mythical dragons. There’ll also be visits to see the remarkable Giant Tortoises which make for one of the highlights of an expedition to the Galapagos Islands. About 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, the Galapagos Islands are a remarkable place to visit for wildlife sightings.

Providing an ecologically sound cruise definitely does not mean that we have to compromise on luxury! Go Galapagos - Kleintours is acutely aware of the fragility and importance of the Galapagos National Park in which we have been operating and doing things right since 1983. Some of our eco-friendly practices include that all toiletries provided in our cabins are biodegradable and made from natural components as well as all the cleaning products used during housekeeping. As a complimentary gift, guests will find a thermos in each cabin to be refilled at one of our vessel’s potable water stations, thus reducing the use of plastic bottles. Our vessels are equipped with sophisticated water treatment plants to desalinate, filter and purify water for consumable use. The decor of our vessels is acquired from sustainable-certified teak plantations and all our food supply is carefully planned to reduce kitchen waste.

Cruising out ofNew Jersey gives you lots of places you can stay that aren’t in New York, butyou’ll still get to see it from a distance. Read these essential pros and cons on cruises out of New Jersey from the popular Cape Liberty cruise port in Bayonne across from Manhattan. The alternative is NYC's public transportation system (trains/buses to either Newark (Pennsylvania Station) or Bayonne (45th Street Light Rail Station), then you need to taxi to the cruise terminal. Newark' Penn Station serves regularly scheduled Amtrak trains interconnecting numerous destinations along the US East Coast. In 2018 was inaugurated the ferry route connecting Bayonne with Manhattan (across Hudson River). A US$650,000 federal grant was given to the city for building of a ferry terminal. The facility is on the southern part of Military Ocean Terminal, on an artificial peninsula east of Route 440.

Cape Liberty Bayonne (New Jersey)

Most of the passengers are locals who don’t need a hotel room before their cruise, which means that options for those who do are somewhat limited. There’s relatively little to do or to look atbecause it’s so remote. The town of Bayonne exists only because the cruise portis there, which means that while there are good restaurants, there’s nothingelse going on in the town. Royal Caribbean andCelebrity are both excellent cruise lines with great ships, so it’s not likethey’re bad choices. But, if you have kids, you might be more interested in aDisney Cruise, or something along those lines. If that’s the case, Cape Libertyis not the cruise port for you.

Cruise Itineraries from Bayonne

Meanwhile, cruise terminals in New York City, Los Angeles, and several other places along both coasts have been operating for decades. The truth is that cruise ports, likeairports, have been built in just about any large city that can host one. This Bayonne cruise terminal, aside from being adjacent to New York City, is in a perfect location for commuters. Rather than dealing with the hectic and unpredictable traffic of New York, travelers coming into Cape Liberty Port already begin their trip on a relaxed note. Just seven miles from New York City and three from Newark Liberty International Airport, the cruise port is convenient for drivers and not too far away from the New Jersey Turnpike. If you don’t want to worry about parking, taking the New Jersey Transit Hudson-Bergen Light Rail directly to the port is another convenient option.

Royal Caribbean ships are famous for their onboard entertainment, such as skydiving simulators, bumper cars, and water slides. In contrast, thecruise ports in Florida and along the Gulf Coast are very close to theirCaribbean or Bahamian destinations, and you’ll get to spend a lot more timeactually enjoying the tropical beaches. Yes, you’ll have to fly down there toboard the cruise, but it just might be worth it. If you don’t live there, though, you might want to consider another port.

JFK is about 30 miles away and will require an hour’s drive. Weigh the pros and cons that we’ve listed here and you candecide for yourself if Cape Liberty is the right cruise port for you. In short, Cape Liberty is not the best optionfor those who don’t live in the area. If you must sail out of this area butdon’t live here, then Manhattan or Brooklyn are probably better choices. CapeLiberty is ideal for those who live in NYC and New Jersey. Cape Liberty used tobe a major Naval base, which means it was not built with easy access in mind. It’s in the middle of nowhere, and far away from all major tourist spots.

Closeness to a major airport offers another advantage for travelers – hotels. Near the airport, and consequently just miles from the Bayonne cruise port, are a large range of lodging options. Budget to high-end hotels, fitting into your travel plans, are a convenient place to spend the night before embarking on your trip. Although there are no restaurants near the port, the nearby city of Newark has every restaurant and type of food imaginable.

About a 20-minute drive from the port, guests can find TJ Maxx and Walmart for last-minute cruise essentials. If you can, take a few extra days before or after your cruise from NJ to spend time in nearby New York City. Manhattan, the heart of NYC, is home to some of the most famous sights and attractions in the world.

If you’re already going to have to fly to your cruise port, flying somewhere like Florida will give you more cruise options and all of them will give you more time at your destination. Cape Liberty has no tourist destinations, and if you want part of the trip to be exploring Manhattan and NYC, you’re much better off booking a cruise that leaves from Brooklyn or Manhattan. The main reason why so many people don’t realize that New Jersey has a cruise port is that it’s relatively new. The Cape Liberty Cruise Terminal began operations in 2004, and prior to that it was a Naval base.

Los Angeles Airport to Port Transportation

And you can be picked up anywhere else in the area to get to the ship on your own schedule. As you can see, the Los Angeles Port comes from a verydifferent kind of commercial history than luxury cruises. While the port as awhole is still dominated by shipping, the Los Angeles Cruise Terminal is a bigcruise hub. We’ve already mentioned the many cruise operators working in theLos Angeles cruise terminals, and the list is expanding. After collecting their luggage, guests should proceed to customs and into the arrivals area.

ON THE RETURN HOME

Upon closer inspection, we discovered a discreetly placed ‘no parking’ sign, indicating restrictions from 6 am to 6 pm. Regrettably, our car had been towed, resulting in a hefty impound fee and a much later-than-anticipated return home. However, upon returning several hours later, tired from a day of exploration, we were met with an unsettling sight – our car was nowhere to be found. During one family outing to a museum in downtown Los Angeles, my Dad opted for street parking as we ventured towards the museum on foot. Renting a car provides you with the flexibility to access more activities and destinations within a short drive, allowing you to optimize your time in this vibrant region. These following museums are all located within walking distance of each other, making it easy to visit multiple museums in one day.

There are several parking lots, but the parking lots in theimmediate area can fill up. There are parking alternatives, but it’s somethingto keep in mind if you are planning to bring your own vehicle. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism understands the power of the music more than anyone, which is why such an incredible celebration takes places at sea. The Caribbean is full of jewels – from its people, paradises, food, tunes, and vibes. This cruise was a cumulation of all this and for that, I think I speak for all guests who are proud of their Caribbean heritage when I say we are truly grateful it exists. In fact, the older I’m getting, the more I want to be more in tune with my Caribbean roots.

My family are proud Vincentians and my father, who passed in December of 2022, also made it a point to teach me about my Garifuna heritage and Vincy culture. So, this invite truly came at a great time when I’ve been feeling this urge to connect more with my Caribbean ancestry. UberSoca Cruises first sailed in 2016 as cruises that were more inclusive by expanding the offerings to include a more local approach to cruising. Based on soca music – inspired by African and East Indian rhythms of calypso originated in the Caribbean – the cruises offer more than just entertainment, with networking and culinary experiences as well. The USVI’s participation showcases its identity as a Caribbean destination through music and celebration, and not just an American one.

Known for it’s gorgeous beaches, would class recreational activities, fine dining, resorts, casinos and golf courses, St Croix provides the perfect landscape for our Jouvert / Beach Party. Soca music has been around for years – since 1970 to be exact – and it’s here to stay.

U.S. Virgin Islands Announces 3-Year Partnership with UberSoca Cruise

The new sailings coincides with USC's partnership announcement with the V.I. Dept. of Tourism, with the territory benefiting as a destination partner for the upcoming events. The announcement reinforces the USVI’s commitment to the cruise industry, already a favorite port of call in the Caribbean.

Virgin Islands, a collaboration with Ubersoca Cruise is yet another effective partnership that allows the destination to strengthen its positioning in the tourism market," he said. "Ubersoca Cruise’s brand is synonymous with a unique experience and likewise, the U.S. Virgin Islands offers visitors three reasons to fete - St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas - to provide an unforgettable backdrop for Carnival goers who are seeking an unforgettable cultural experience." Uber Soca Cruise has announced the highly anticipated return of its theme cruise at sea with three sailings in 2023, including a new Spring sailing in April, followed by back-to-back sailings in November 2023.

Commissioner Boschulte said the partnership is a clear way that the destination is advancing towards its goals. “We have traditionally been a cruise destination, so partnering with UberSoca Cruise is a natural fit. These cruises will immerse visitors in the USVI experience once they arrive, showing them all there is to do on our three islands and creating a desire to come back and stay for a longer time,” he said. ST. THOMAS, USVI (June 22, 2022) - The U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) announced that the destination is the official partner for the UberSoca Cruise as the company resumes its “Carnival at Sea” events in 2023. Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte and Division of Festivals Director Ian Turnbull discussed the new partnership during a Facebook Live event last Friday with Trini Jungle Juice, the leading media brand that covers Carnival celebrations worldwide. We are very excited about our new partnership with the U.S.

We are very excited about our new partnership with the US Virgin Islands and theUSVI Division of Festivals. After canceling cruises in past years due to the pandemic, UberSoca Cruise is finally returning with three sailings in 2023 for the first time – one in April and two in November – allowing cruise-goers to stop at several Caribbean destinations including the USVI. With its three islands, each hosting their own Carnival, the USVI is poised to provide engaging and memorable experiences for visitors. Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte said the partnership was yet another way for D.O.T. to highlight the territory and attract visitors.

It is also a chance to elevate the three unique Carnival experiences available to visitors in the USVI. Furthermore, by engaging the largely Caribbean visitors on UberSoca Cruise, the USVI is also reaffirming its place among other Caribbean destinations. The islands will showcase their beaches, watersports, hiking, and local cuisine alongside their vibrant musical performances. Ubersoca Cruise last sailed in 2019 and was forced to postpone its 2020 cruise due to the global pandemic. After 2 years of uncertainty, USC has decided to return in a major way giving passengers 3 sailing options in 2023 along with all new destinations.

Norwegian Viva Cruise Ship Norwegian Viva Deck Plans Norwegian Cruise Line

newest norwegian cruise ship

Each of the four two-story spacious suites will include separate living and dining areas, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, floor-to-ceiling windows, and even more luxurious appointments. Norwegian Cruise Line offers guests the flexibility to design their vacation on their preferred schedule, with no assigned dining and entertainment times and no formal dress codes. On Norwegian's relatively new Breakaway Plus Class vessels (Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Joy and Norwegian Escape), you'll find multiple pools, waterslides, a kiddie splash zone and — on most of the ships — a sprawling go-kart racing track.

I spent $20 at NCL's Ice Bar, and it was the best-kept secret on Epic

Following its debut this past August and its inaugural summer season of European voyages, the ship hosted over 1,500 guests at the ceremony held in the Company’s LEED® Gold Certified terminal at PortMiami. Newer Norwegian Cruise Line ships are generally bigger than older Norwegian ships — sometimes much bigger. As a result, they have room for many more onboard venues and attractions than the line's older vessels.

First itineraries

Setting sail April 2025, Norwegian Aqua will feature all-new specialty dining venue Sukhothai, NCL’s first-ever Thai restaurant, offering flavorful menu highlights such as Thai Cashew Chicken. Aboard Norwegian Aqua, Whiskey Bar will relocate to deck six near the brand-new Swirl Wine Bar, while Belvedere Bar will move to deck eight at the heart of the atrium, where guests can revel in night caps and nightly entertainment. Norwegian Viva is the newest vessel of Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), and the second ship in its award-winning Prima Class.

More Wide-Open Spaces

During a regular voyage, guests can upgrade their dining experience to include two dinners at speciality restaurants. Due to the limitations of the christening voyage, we were only able to eat in one of the speciality restaurants, Food Republic. The hull artist is Allison Hueman, the first-ever female artist to design a ship hull for the cruise line. Her distinctive street-art style blends modern mythology and figurative representations of sea and sky with ancient goddesses in a piece entitled “Where the Sky Meets the Sea” exclusively for Norwegian Aqua.

Outstanding Hull Art

In addition to these complimentary dining venues, guests will also be able to enjoy The Haven Restaurant for free if they are staying in one of the exclusive suites. Other areas of activity and entertainment for guests include the Galaxy Pavilion, an immersive reality experience that allows passengers to explore the first flying theater simulator at sea. When it debuted onboard Norwegian Prima in 2022, this slide was the first free-fall dry slide in the world. There's another second dry slide onboard, too, named "The Rush." This dueling-slide style allows guests to race their travel companions and fellow passengers.

The only ship in its class, Norwegian’s Pride of America is registered in Hawaii and offers week-long itineraries around the islands. The ship debuted in September of 2002 and can carry 2,500 passengers. Epic is the only ship in its class, although there are a few similarities in the subsequent class of Breakaway. Debuting in July of 2009, Norwegian Epic was the 3rd largest ship in the world at the time. At 155,873 gross tons, the ship can carry 4,100 passengers at double capacity.

Guests can expect a playful dining experience surrounded by bold colors of lime green and black. Note that all Norwegian ships are regularly renovated and upgraded every few years, so even the oldest Norwegian cruise vessels have newer carpeting, updated furniture, modern decor in cabins and other updates. In many cases, their eateries and bars have been entirely renovated over the years with concepts that first debuted on newer vessels. Norwegian executives have said the smaller size of the new Prima Class ships would give the line more options in designing itineraries; the vessels are able to access smaller ports around the world than the bigger Norwegian ships can.

The new vessel will also have a three-level go-kart track, the Viva Speedway, which can accommodate up to 15 racers, and a series of thrill rides first seen on Prima, such as The Drop and The Rush, that will offer pulse-quickening moments. Built by Lloyd Werft in Germany, Norwegian Sun was the last Sun-class ship. She was launched in 2001 in a dual christening ceremony with sister ship Norwegian Star. Along with the name change, the ship also received new livery and extra features at that time, including the addition of a casino.

One of NCL’s stand-alone ships without a class, Norwegian Epic debuted in 2010 after being built at the STX France Cruise SA, Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard. Another mammoth Breakaway Plus-class ship, Norwegian Joy was likewise built by Meyer Werft in Germany. Delivered in 2017, the ship has sailed around both Asia and North America.

On the same outdoor deck you'll find The Stadium, which includes shuffleboard tables, table football and other games. Immediately noticeable is Norwegian Aqua‘s vibrant, multi-colored hull art. Unlike her sister ships with their ocean-hued colorations, Norwegian Aqua will have an intense paint scheme with yellow, blue, teal, orange, pink, and purple shades, ensuring the ship is instantly recognizable from every angle. Norwegian Cruise Line’s third Prima-class ship will be named Norwegian Aqua, and she is sure to make a splash.

Fulfill your current craving or expand your palate with the fantastic dining options on Norwegian Encore. Authentic al-dente Italian at Onda by Scarpetta will make you feel like you’re at a Tuscan trattoria. And whether it’s smoky Texas-style ribs or a succulent filet mignon, Q and Cagney’s both have you covered.

Oddly enough, the Infinity Pools down on Deck 8 were hotter than the hot tubs. Another bar we spent some time in was the Observation Lounge at the front of Deck 17. The comfy lounge furniture and views made this a pleasant place to spend an hour or so, especially during sunsets. Each of the many bars onboard has its own theme or speciality, from cocktails to whiskey. There are several bars located beside the main restaurants, perfect for a pre- or post-dinner drink, and several outdoor bars too. Perhaps more than anywhere else on the ship, you don’t feel like you’re on the ocean at all.

This meant we had to constantly call the staff and had to wait a long time for the food to arrive, while the six other people at our table experienced no problems. Most of the restaurants are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Given our itinerary, we didn't always have the best weather so some of these outdoor activities were limited. However, when we were in port and the weather was nice, both the golf and darts were fun ways to spend some time.

Hidden at the top of the ship, The Haven features our most luxurious, well-appointed accommodations as well as 24-hour butler service, concierge service and private sundeck. The Norwegian Prima is the first in a en entirely new class of ship from NCL. The second in the prima line of cruise ships, the Norwegian Viva, is under construction right now in Italy, with several more to follow in future years. Guests will also be able to stroll around the cruise line’s largest-ever Ocean Boulevard, wrapping around the ship and linking outdoor dining spaces and seating areas while featuring outstanding views. The glass-floored Oceanwalk bridge is a highlight of the Boulevard and always a remarkable spot for a pause. Norwegian Cruise Line’s guest-favorite bar, Metropolitan, will now include an intimate entertainment space aboard Norwegian Aqua for guests to enjoy live music over award-winning sustainable cocktails.

The ships will also offer the most outdoor deck space of any modern cruise ship. Metropolitan, NCL’s modern Sail & Sustain cocktail bar, which won the 2024 Vibe Vista Award for “Best Beverage Program,” will return aboard Norwegian Aqua and boast a distinct new design from other Prima Class vessels. Relocating from mid-ship to the aft of deck seven, the innovative bar will now feature a grand piano and a small entertainment space for guests to enjoy live music with their Sail & Sustain cocktails, biodynamic wines and sustainably produced liquors. Inspired by the art deco and mid-century modern areas of New York City, Studio DADO crafted an intimate enclave with dark hues, eye-catching motifs and fresh greenery offering an easy-going ambience for guests engaging in a nightly beverage. This private oasis is a ship within a ship and offers a breathtaking sundeck, exclusive amenities and unparalleled personalized service.

Disney Cruise Line Releases Full List of Port Adventures for Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point

Depending on the ship’s arrival and departure times, this is easier to do at some ports than others. Cruising in Northern Europe offers a fantastic variety of excursions and experiences, from historical city tours to adrenaline-filled outdoor adventures. Some other cruise line's private islands, like Norwegian's Great Stirrup Cay, don't have a dock, so cruisers must take tender ships (small boats) from the cruise ship to the island. Over the past decade, I've taken eight Disney cruises with my family and friends.

The crew member, Tirso Neri, who was working aboard the Disney Dream, was found by law enforcement to have sexually explicated photos and videos of minors on two different phones in his possession. According to reports from USA Today, an affidavit signed by a Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent stated that the photos and videos included both children and teenagers. Given the outdoor nature of many of the activities, accessibility may be limited. However, as of March 2023, Disney listed 24 of its 191 Alaska Excursions as fully wheelchair accessible.

Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point

During this excursion, you’re also apt to spot sea lions, harbor seals, and even bald eagles. On the low end, it costs about $47 to attend a lumberjack demonstration in Ketchikan. On the high end, you can spend nearly $5,200 to take a private sea plane to Misty Fjords National Monument. On our most recent cruise to Mexico, my daughter and I spent the day at the beach while the guys in our family were off ziplining. We had the most magical time watching the staff at the beach resort rescue these baby sea turtles and guide them to safety. There are local tour agencies available that would love to help your family plan a fun, independent adventure.

Start Planning

As mentioned above, you don’t need to list children 3 or under if you’re only using the room to get Atlantis wristbands; you won’t need a wristband for them. There is plenty here for the cruise visitor, including the amazing Atlantis mega-resort, snorkeling, scuba-diving, or just lying on the beach. All of Disney Cruise Line’s popular 3- and 4-day cruises stop in Nassau, which is probably the single most visited cruise destination in the world.

The Vacationeer also provides a free onboard credit of up to $1,000 to use toward excursions, gratuities, and virtually anything else you pay for onboard the ship. First — and most importantly — Disney will wait, if necessary, to allow official excursions to return to the ship should they run late (or pay for you to catch up to the ship at the next port-of-call). This courtesy is not extended to unofficial tours, which risks leaving you stranded! Your Disney excursions will also be automatically adjusted if the ship’s port schedule changes. After heading to Fraser, British Columbia, you’ll board the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad for an unforgettable train ride down this historic narrow gauge railroad, descending nearly 3,000 feet over 20 miles.

This experience is the same as the one described above, but guests will board a 4-person buggy instead. A trained divemaster will lead a guided dive in the reef area, as guests explore underwater and see diverse marine life at varying depths. After about an hour of exploration, guests will re-board the catamaran and sail back to Disney Lookout Cay, cup of non-alcoholic fruit punch in hand.

If you’re considering doing a tourist activity like visiting a local attraction, look up its web site online. You’ll usually get more information about what it really is than in a short paragraph from Disney. For example, there are some train-based excursions in DCL’s Alaska ports that wend in and out of Canada.

Definitely buy your Bahamian stamps on the boat at Guest Services before you arrive at Castaway Cay, or you can buy them in Nassau if you go there first. If you do buy stamps at Castaway Cay you will need CASH to pay for the postage — it can’t be charged to your room key, and you may find that the post office has very limited hours (as in it may not open at all). Note that it can take quite a long time (months) for the postcard to reach home, and we have multiple reports of postcards never arriving at all. We advise not straying far from the port or other tourist areas in Nassau, Bahamas, especially at night. Violent crime against tourists is rare, but it does happen, including bold armed robberies of tour groups.

When I book, I always make sure Disney's private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay, is on the port of call. There’s a lot to consider when booking a Disney Cruise to Alaska — excursions, staterooms, ground transportation, dining, and onboard activities. Yes, excursions can be booked at the Port Adventures desk onboard the ship — but it is subject to availability.

Choosing port excursions that are booked directly through your Disney Cruise Line is the safest option and a good choice if this is your first cruise or you are a more tentative traveler. Referred to as Port Adventures, these have been selected specifically by Disney to offer options suitable for a wide variety of travelers, little ones through adults. The vessel will travel for 15 to 20 minutes to the Snorkeling Reef or a similar site, where guests can explore the reef area alongside safety snorkelers. After about an hour of time underwater, guests will reboard the catamaran and head back to shore.

Some people worry that an independent tour company might not getting them back to the ship on time. In practice, it’s extremely rare for a tour operator to get passengers back late enough to miss their ship. Any tour company that services cruise passengers risks the wrath of a busload of incredibly angry guests if they miss their ship. You can be sure they do not want that to happen, and they will go to great lengths to avoid it. If they have a bus breakdown, they will have a contingency plan to bring in another bus or provide alternative transportation. Some third-party tour companies provide a guarantee that they’ll get you back to your boat on time or they’ll pay to get you to the next port, which tells you that they’re confident they’ll be on time.

Surprisingly, summer in the Caribbean is only moderately busy, as it’s very hot, and a lot of cruise ships are in Alaska and Europe then. These three approaches to selecting port excursions depend on your comfort level as a cruiser and as a traveler in general. No worries – no matter how you decide to proceed, you can easily find amazing port adventures that deliver all that your cruise ports have to offer. One of the great advantages of embarking on a cruise is the opportunity to visit multiple countries during your vacation.

But if you expect to get your money’s worth as a “theme park” experience, then it’s going to be a disappointment. Some excursions are very popular and fill up early, so book them as early as you can. If you’re not able to get an excursion you wanted before you embark, go to Guest Services or the Excursion Desk as soon as you get onboard and see if they can add you to a waiting list. Sometimes the tour or experience itself still has space, but the bus that Disney chartered is full – if  you’re willing to take a cab direct to the facility you can still do the excursion.

The newly-formed bars are not reused onboard, but distributed to vulnerable communities worldwide. As of 2019, Clean the World recycles and distributes recycled hygiene products to 127+ countries. Since April 1st, CCL again offers the popular "Behind the Scenes" ship tour fleetwide. In September CCL announced that the libraries on older ships would be removed (during their next scheduled drydocks) while the newer (EXCEL-class) ships lack such facilities by the original design. The former library spaces (used for reading or board game playing) will be repurposed/redesigned as bars, cafes, live music setups, or existing venue-adjacent seating areas. Carnival Conquest takes cruisers to the Bahamas and the Caribbean on two to 10-day sailings.

Carnival Cruises Tips, Activities, and Overview

Carnival's free-to-join loyalty program, the Very Important Fun Person (VIFP) Club, offers deals like reduced deposits, onboard credit, and room upgrades. The more you book with the cruise line, the better your deals will be. A Carnival passenger taking seven-night cruises will hit the Platinum level during their 11th sailing.

If you're a foodie, try Guy’s Burger Joint for loaded burgers straight from Flavortown or Shaq’s Big Chicken for the basketball star's incredible fried chicken sandwiches. Kids will love seeing The Cat in the Hat characters during activities like character parades, story time, and character breakfasts. The second-to-highest tier, Platinum (75 points), brings such perks as priority check-in and boarding, priority debarkation, priority dinner reservations, priority spa reservations and priority water shuttle boarding. Platinums also get complimentary wash-and-fold laundry service (with a limit of two to five bags, depending on the length of the cruise). Members earn one point for every night they sail on one of the line's ships. Each group has its own age-appropriate activities ranging from face painting to pirate adventures.

Carnival Elation

The whole family will also enjoy exclusive access to the nearby Family Harbor Lounge, plus more great perks around the ship. We designed Carnival Horizon balcony staterooms for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views, and this stateroom features a balcony that's even wider than our standard balcony. She wasn’t built for the cruise line but was the first ship for the newly formed Ted Arison Carnival Cruise Line at the time. The ship started sailing for Carnival in 1972, and the “Fun Ships” have kept coming ever since!

Here, find guidance on every Carnival cruise ship, from the newest to the oldest. With 27 ships and hundreds of itineraries, there’s a Carnival cruise for everyone. Whether you use a travel agent or not, make sure to maximize your credit card points when paying for the cruise by using a credit card that offers extra points for travel purchases.

And because the ship is so small, it's easy to navigate, and I always end up making friends with the delightful crew onboard. Originally debuted in 2021 as part of the Costa Cruises fleet (an Italy-based subsidiary of Carnival), the Firenze will set sail as a Carnival ship — with an Italian twist — in Spring 2024. Across Firenze, you’ll see touches of Italy; think cute cafe set-ups that look like they were picked up from a Florence sidewalk. Terrazza staterooms access a private sun deck with whirlpools and a bar. Carnival’s fan-favorite dining options and amenities, like Guy’s Burger Joint and WaterWorks, will be on board.

Between May 2019 and Oct 2022, Ecstasy was homeported in JAXPORT (Jacksonville Florida) to operate year-round on 4-5-day short breaks to The Bahamas. The program started with a 15-day Transatlantic crossing (RepositionCruises.com) from Barcelona to NYC (May 29-June 13, 2023). From Port NOLA are offered 4-5-day Western Caribbean getaways to Mexico.

YOUR STATEROOM

The overarching idea for Carnival's ship deployments is that a large percentage of the U.S. population can reach one of the line's ships by car, saving the cost of flights. Indeed, if you're going on a Carnival cruise, the odds are you're driving to the ship, not flying, and you're probably not paying much more than you would for a trip to a local beach town. First, Carnival Horizon goes big with the two-screen Carnival Multiplex®, which brings together one theater packed with huge IMAX® action and one with 3D visuals, incredible motion effects and more! This ship keeps things flowing with an onboard waterpark that splashes you more than a little — Dr. Seuss WaterWorks™ splashes you oodles, with a little help from the wacky characters everybody loves.

Mardi Gras – 2021

The ship was also constructed in Finland at the cost of 315 million. She departed on her inaugural voyage in March 1998 and since then has undergone 10 dry docks, with the latest adding the ship’s new red, white, and blue livery. More recently, as of October 23, 2022, Carnival Cruise line Passengers are not required to provide COVID-19 test prior to their arrival if the passenger is vaccinated and boosted. In 1993, Carnival began to get rid of their older second-hand tonnage, and sold their first ship, Mardi Gras, after 21 years of service with the line. The Carnivale followed the same year, going to newly created Carnival subsidiary Fiesta Marina Cruises.

A private yacht it’s not… but leave the sailing to us — you’d rather be relaxing anyway. We designed Carnival Vista balcony staterooms for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views, and this stateroom features a balcony that's even wider than our standard balcony. Enjoy the extra outdoor space, along with all the standard Carnival stateroom amenities.

The service is exclusively provided by Cardtronics and available to both passengers and crew. Each Carnival ship has all 4 ATMs - 2 located in high-traffic passenger areas and 2 are exclusively for the crew. On Oct 6, 2022, was announced a new kids program via partnership with Cape Canaveral's Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. The new programming (Space Cruisers, hosted at Camp Ocean) is NASA-supported and debuted on Carnival Celebration in November. Carnival's Space Cruisers program was implemented fleetwide by 2023-Q2.

There are 12 passenger decks and she cost the cruise line $375 million. The ship is 110,000 gross tons with a passenger capacity of 2,980, along with 1,180 international crew members. The Carnival cruise ship has a gross tonnage of 130,000, a guest capacity of 3,690 at double occupancy, and a crew capacity of 1,367. The vessel is the third Dream-class cruise ship that entered service in 2012.

At 101,000 GT , it became the largest passenger ship in the world at the time and first to exceed 100,000 tons. The Destiny-class platform continued to be used in various iterations all the way to the Carnival Splendor in 2008. The same year the veteran ship Festivale, the last of the original second-hand fleet, was retired. Inside, you'll find activities that range from trivia and Bingo during the day to comedy shows and high-tech song-and-dance revues at night.

The Punchliner Comedy Club™ and Playlist Productions™ are just two of your top onboard entertainment picks, and they’re both focused on uniting you with unforgettable performances up on stage. Your private stateroom is more than just a place to rest and recharge — see the comfy options available. The fun continues when you reach your port — there’s a huge variety of shore excursions to choose from.

In 2017, CCL updated the cruise ship Wi-Fi service fleetwide, introducing the option to pre-purchase Internet packages online. For those who love sports, Carnival has done a great job by creating the SportSquare with ropes SkyCourse, SkyRide and Basketball Court, also used also for Soccer and Volleyball. Since October 2016, Carnival Cruise Line ships offer bocce court activities, due to an inflatable court developed by the company Packaworld (New Zealand). The new activity was added following successful test trials (on Carnival Glory and Carnival Pride) run by American Bocce Company (USA). In February 2015, Carnival Corporation signed an MoU with China Merchants Group for 2 joint ventures. The MoU outlined an eventual partnership that could result in a new cruise brand (joint shipowner company), as well as joint development plans for Chinese seaports and destinations.

Passengers come prepared with rehearsed songs and sometimes even their own guitars. Other extra-charge eateries often found on Carnival vessels include Bonsai, an a la carte sushi restaurant (now on 14 ships), and JiJi Asian Kitchen, which costs $24 per person (now on four ships). Carnival has just begun operating its first truly giant ships in years, the 181,808-ton, 5,282-passenger Mardi Gras and the 183,521-ton, 5,374-passenger Carnival Celebration.
